Since 2000, we have strived to help owner and their pets live happier and healthier lives together. From the companion pet to the working dog, we strive to help our clients build upon the natural attributes their dog posses as well as design a curriculum that is realistic to allow them to reach their maximum potential.
Dating back 15,000 years ago, Dogs have been recognized as “Mans Best Friend” and here at Altamaha Canine Consulting, we believe that through our structured environment and curriculum, we can allow our clients the ultimate experience in dog ownership.
Through our breeding programs, we hold our standards high and ensure we maximize genetic screening to its fullest extent. Our brood stock is evaluated in accordance with the OFA Chic standards and have full health screenings bi annually.
Our puppies are whelped and weaned in our training facility, allowing for daily stimulation, socialization and environmental skills. Our puppies develop into well rounded dogs with skills far beyond puppies with less motor sensory stimulation.
Here at Altamaha Canine Consulting, one thing is for certain…We love dogs and we are passionate about that. If you don’t believe us, Come visit a while!!
Obedience Advanced Program
Our advanced program consists of three months of in-board training. The student will come to our facility after the age of 5 months old and will learn a variety of commands that will ensure they are a pleasure to be around for years to some. Sit, Stay, Here, Heel and Place are just some of these commands. The students will learn to be under control in off leash environments with multiple distractions and to enjoy working with respect to the commands and the gallery. While this program is very similar to the basic program, it has its major differences when it comes to distractionary training. It includes an additional month in which we will train your dog to be aware of urban environments, dog park interaction, introduction to sidewalks and streets, How to behave in crowds and more. At the end of the program owners will be transitioned into control of the pet and taught how to continue to reinforce commands.
Retriever Program
Our retriever dog program is a 12-16-week program that puts your field companion to the test. We will teach your dog how to fetch on command, hold and deliver to hand as well as introduce them to hunting scenarios such as dove hunting on a bucket, timber hunting from a platform as well as layout blinds and dog blinds for Arkansas rice field hunting. This program incorporates live birds as well as dead birds, single and multiple marks as well as water marks, land marks and land water combination marks. We use real shotguns in training so that we can expose these animals to everything they will see in the field. Prior to enrolling in our gun dog program your retriever will first need to know advanced level obedience or have completed our basic training program.
Pointing Dog Program
Our pointer dog program is a 12-16-week program that introduces your pup to the game of finding wild birds plantation style. We request that your dog have no obedience work done prior to this program other than “HERE”. The “HERE” command is the only command we teach in this program as it’s our experience that too much obedience can prevent young bird dogs from being independent enough to quarter and hunt birds. We recommend following one season of hunting, for your pointer to come back for our two-month obedience program and force fetch if desired.
Water Sports Activities
We have built a 40’ competition style dock and installed a dive pool just for you and your dog! We will offer a variety of opportunities to ensure we a flexible enough for as involved as you and your four-legged friend desires. We will be working hard over the course of a year to develop a competitive dock dive team as well as expand on our water rehabilitation programs.
Private Lessons
Are you wanting to be in control of your dog’s training? Our private sessions are perfect for the owner that has the time to devote to the training but lacks direction. Our staff will meet your dog and set up a schedule of sessions to ensure maximum results. Our session length is approximately one to one and a half hours, but we will work as long as your dog is willing to learn. We also will attempt to educate you as the handler on the dos and don’ts of dog ownership. Things that you may think are okay but may be sending the wrong signals.
